
Gas Turbine Access System
One of our valued clients, INPEX approached us with a scaffold elimination project. Their current method of maintenance on their Gas Turbine involved the complex and costly set-up and break-down of a substantial amount of scaffold.
The problem associated with scaffold:
- Time consuming and costly
- Access was limited and personnel still needed to climb on top of the Gas Turbine to perform maintenance
- Scaffold wooden planks presented a fire hazard with no sprinkler system in the area the Gas Turbine was housed.
SOLUTION
Bend-tech visited site several times and conducted a series of free data capture sessions where we 3D scanned the Gas Turbine and surrounding areas. Bend-tech liaised with INPEX personnel regarding the design and engineering requirements and delivered preliminary drawings of the proposed solution.
The data captured resulted in concept drawings being developed and presented to INPEX for review. Once approved the concept then moved onto engineering where our in-house engineering team developed the final production drawings and ensured full compliance with Australian Standards.
Fabrication of the maintenance platform was completed in-house at our 10,000 square metre facility in Perth. The platform was then inspected by INPEX and signed off for delivery. The platform was then delivered to site and accompanied by our consultants to oversee and aid in the installation.
RESULT
The result is a fully integrated, wrap around Gas Turbine access system that has revolutionised the way maintenance, servicing and inspections are conducted – exceeding expectations from the client.
Our access system over traditional scaffold:
Eliminating safety hazards: Traditional scaffold relies on wooden planks which pose a significant fire hazard. Our platform is made entirely from steel, eliminating the fire hazard. Scaffold is also limited in its ability to provide the required access for maintenance. Our access system is completely bespoke and designed and engineered to provide complete safe access to the Gas Turbine.
Ease of use: Designed and engineered with safety and efficiency at the forefront, our access system uses slide out sections providing a comprehensive 360-degree access to the Gas Turbine. This significantly reduces downtime and ensures maintenance and service tasks are safe and efficient to achieve.
